Speaking Out
Speaking out….
If you have been speaking, what have you been speaking out about? Or have you even been speaking lately?
When was the last time you gave a speech? What was it about? Were you giving a presentation at work? Did you give a speech at a club you belong to?
How did it go? Did you feel great when it was over?
Whew… that’s a lot of questions isn’t it?

Recently I spoke out and gave a speech entitled “Above the Clouds The Sun Is Still Shining”. It was all about being positive no matter what happens. Something that I have been practicing while waiting for my house to be repaired. I had hoped that I would be back in my house by June, but that was before they tore it completely apart down to the wallboards.
My House
Now I am waiting for a damaged corner to be fixed before the actual internal work can begin. The repairs are covered by insurance, but because I am opting to take a buyout, they don’t give you the same amount of money. They presume with a buyout you are doing the work yourself.
I have been doing some work, pulling nails, hammering nails, tearing tarpaper off the walls, but that’s the limit of my skills. I had my sons over to tear down a deck that needed to be moved and to tote rotten boards and chunks of cement, but they are only available on weekends and they aren’t carpenters.

Over the next week or so I will be planning what I want it to look like, where I will need wiring, internet, telephone lines, etc. so that the wiring will all be in place. I need my daughter to help me with the layout and design of my kitchen and living room.
The other day the contractor told me that I needed to put a beam in the center of my kitchen in order to strengthen the floor above. So, now I have a big beam and two supporting pillars that I will have to design around. Not in the initial plans at all…
Speech Topics
My friends in Toastmasters keep saying, “look at all the great speeches you will have from this”. Yes indeed. I might even be able to write a book about how to keep your temper and your patience in check when living with friends. I chose to stay with my boyfriend while the repairs are being done – saving the insurance company money I might add. However, there is a reason that we have our separate homes even after almost 22 years of being in a relationship.
So, what are you talking about these days? Anything interesting? Drop me a line and let me know how you are doing.

P.S. If you are interested in reading a copy of my speech, let me know and I will send it to you.
