Old habits and patterns are sometimes hard to break. We may wish them away and want to do better and be more, but without practical tips and advice along with the creation of new habits, we remain stuck in the same old place.
For the next few days I will be posting some tips on self-improvement. Hopefully you will find one or two that will speak to you.
Take Time for Yourself – While you might associate being a better person with doing more for others, the truth is you need to take time for yourself in order to be that better person. If you are burned out and stressed, you will not be a positive contribution to anyone. Taking time out for yourself is not selfish; it gives you the opportunity to refresh your own wellbeing.
On an airplane, you are told to put the oxygen mask on yourself first, so that you can then help others. It is important to look after yourself. Often caregivers give and give and forget that they need care too. This leads to significant burnout and then they are not of help to anyone.
So before you burn out, set aside some time for yourself. Mark down an appointment time in your calendar and don’t let anyone else take that space. Do whatever you like with that time. Take a bath, read a book, have your nails done, go window shopping – whatever gives you pleasure. You are important and deserve the break.
To taking a time out!
